The work on this project arose directly in the wake of my other biographical online projects: Gustavwiedselskabet.dk and my own flagship Jeanne-darc.info I had been given and read the good book “The Ballad of Marie” written by Anastassia Arnold. Saw the film by Bille August, but wanted to see and know more. So I tried to find a little more information. Was otherwise absolutely certain that there was both a website and a lot of information about Marie Krøyer online. But it turned out to be extremely sporadic and in fact most of what I could find was only to be found on the English Wikipedia. It made me wonder. Hadn’t anyone really relayed her story on the internet? – apparently not.

So one day in March 2013, I randomly tried to search for the domain name marie-krøyer.dk. To my great surprise, the domain name was available, and not in use. I then acquired it, and the foundation stone was thus laid. At the time, I didn’t show how extensive it would become. At the end of May 2015, I could find time and peace and I began the project with many months of research and sorting of works and photos. Programming and setting up the layout.

Death and rebirth

Around October 2015, the project was 90% ready to go online, but then the accident happened. Months of research, web programming and all digital material disappeared. An intense computer crash, deleted most work in seconds. It was a fluke and there was no backup. The project then went dormant, and was then slowly recreated from scratch.

As far as is known, the Marie-krøyer.dk project is the first initiative for a comprehensive biographical online publication about Marie Krøyer, her life and art. The entire project is self-financed without grants or financial help from elsewhere. It is a self-study, volunteer-run, non-profit project. Driven by pure passion and love for biography, culture & history.

The project was created and founded March 19, 2013 and came online Sept. 2016
